Lace knits for SS11 on the high street

I had a quick nose around Topshop yesterday and noticed a lot of interesting lace knitwear in an earthy palette of pale grey, cream, camel, dusky pink and muted peach. The ‘cobweb top’ is a particular favourite, it reminds me of the Sea Tangles sweater pattern. If you like what you see, there are plenty of [...]

Happy new yarn

Happy 2011 to you! I did a spot of dyeing in the final days on 2010. The sock yarn was created by dipping sections in royal blue and yellow, then over-dyeing with pink or turquoise (all using Procion MX and citric acid). The self striping yarn was dyed in a 3 m hank I made [...]

Finished business

Thank you to everyone who contacted me about the throw. It went to the speedy AlpacaAddict. In other news, this morning I photographed what will probably be my final FO of 2010, the Cash Iroha sweater.

Unfinished business

There are some projects that will never see the light of day as an FO, my Colinette throw is one of them.

Making truffles

Controversially, I haven’t knitted any Christmas presents this year. My family and friends probably have enough hats, gloves and scarves for the moment. Also, I felt like a year off; knitting to a deadline has a tendency to take the fun out of it.

An early Christmas present…to myself

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s the importance of at all times having a stash of fine quality, hand-dyed sock yarn. When I noticed that Cocoon had a few skeins of my favourite sock yarns; Fyberspates Sheila’s Sock and British Merino Dream Sock, at a discounted price, how could I resist?

Freestyle

I am a bad knitter when it comes to following patterns, too simple, too difficult, badly written, any errata and I lose interest entirely and do my own thing. I’m working on a couple of projects right now that I’m making up as I go along.

Boutique open!

The Stitched Up Boutique is now open for business! I’ve added a few of my one-off, handmade bags and wallets. I have a very limited number of these and I wont be making more, so don’t miss out! Shipping is free within the UK, and £3 to other lands.

Kindle knitting

I recently got me one of those newfangled Kindle things. It really is magical, and an incredibly useful knitting accessory. One of the best things about the Kindle is being about to email documents to it. I am no longer reliant on from scrappy print-outs of PDF patterns, or my trying to make sense of charts from [...]

Finished

I’m rather pleased that I finished a couple of big projects this weekend. First, my Featherweight Cardigan: I added length to both the body and sleeves, and knitted the band in 1×1 rib. I am still amazed that an entire cardigan can emerge from just one skein. It’s a shame I didn’t finish it before the [...]
