Rebel Stitch – our new monthly knit night in Walthamstow

Since opening up in my neighbourhood of Wood Street, Walthamstow late last year, Rebel Coffee has become a favourite hang-out of mine – not just because of its convenient location on my route to the studio, the home-cooked Italian food (though those things definitely help). No, it’s co-proprietor Alice’s warm welcome and new-found love of knitting.

On finding out I was a yarn pusher, Alice requested a ball of neon pink Marshmallow Cloud, and a few weeks later a Hoxton Hat emerged from the needles. No sooner was her first project finished than the next started – some Mitt-o-matic mittens in ‘Energy Flash’ Dynamite DK.

Fully afflicted with the knitting bug, Alice is often found catching a row between customers which turned out to be quite a talking point, revealing many other knitters and stitchers in the local area.

It was only a matter of time, then, before Alice and I joined forces and started a knitting night at the café, and Rebel Stitch was born!

Rebel Stitch is a monthly evening of knitting, stitching, yarn chat, hearty Italian food and delicious coffee in cosy surroundings. We held the first one last week and it was a fantastic success, we were both surprised how many like-minded folks lived nearby. I am so happy to have made new friends and brought people together.

If you’re local to us in Walthamstow and would like to come along, join the Rebel Stitch Facebook group where you can see event details. We have also added an events page on our website, with details of upcoming Rebel Stitch nights and other dates for your diary. The next Rebel Stitch is 11 June 2019 from 6pm. See you then!
