Shade: The Grey-ish Area – dark mauve grey with splashes of pink and blue, part of a collection inspired by the colours of the transgender flag. We originally created ‘The Grey Area’ for Operation: Social Justice. This version is more purple than the original, so we’ve given it a new name.

This shade represents the grey area of gender occupied by people who identify as non-binary, agender/gender neutral or gender fluid. Non-binary people may identify with traits associated with both masculine and feminine genders, or neither. Non-binary people face exclusion and erasure of their gender, and are fighting for legal recognition of their identity in many countries (including the UK). But, there are simple ways of supporting non-binary people, for example by replacing gendered language like “ladies and gentlemen” with inclusive terms like “everyone”. This Stonewall article suggests more ways you can be an ally.

Our inspiration images are based on work by Sharon McCutcheon, a photographer specialising in LGBTQIA+ themes who kindly donates many images for free use.

Favourite Sock is super-soft, yet hard-wearing enough to be used for socks. It has beautiful stitch definition and unparalleled 'smooshiness'. It's the perfect signature yarn to showcase our full palette of dye effects.

Not just for socks, it's perfect for any 4 ply/fingering weight wool project, especially baby clothes, gloves and lightweight sweaters, and being a superwash yarn, it's easy to care for too.

Our merino is farmed in Argentina and is guaranteed mulesing-free. Farmers are supported by the mill to raise their sheep under ethical farming practices. It is spun in Peru, where the fleece is first graded by highly-skilled workers to ensure consistent quality.

Caring for neons

Neon dyes are not as colour-fast as regular dyes. To keep them looking their brightest and best we recommend hand washing in cold water (even if the yarn itself is machine washable). Dry away from direct sunlight.
