New FO: Blend In, Stand Out fade shawl – see it in person!

My Blend In, Stand out shawl is finished and blocked, and it’s a stunner! The pattern is, of course, by Therése Hedlund aka Brixton Purl and available from her Ravelry Store.

This autumn, there are two opportunities to fondle it in person in all its watermelon-y goodness!

Firstly (and right now) it’s on display at Wild and Woolly in Hackney as part of their Autumn Exhibition until 30 September. I was thrilled to have the piece included alongside such a beautiful selection of knitwear.

Secondly, we’ll be bringing it with us to Yarnporium on 2-3 November, where Therése, the designer, will also be on hand. Yarnporium is our only show of 2018 and I’m really looking forward to meeting many of you in person!

We created kits for the Blend In, Stand Out shawl in three shades of purple, designed by Brixton Purl herself, but I wanted to do something a little different for my own version. It’s definitely more ‘Stand Out’ than ‘Blend In’! I love neons, but I know that a lot of our customers find it difficult to envisage how best to use them in a larger project, so I wanted to show how nicely they combine with other colours. I think the result is bold, but not too over-the-top for everyday wear (well, not for me). The colours I used were (working outwards from the centre): La Vie En Rose, Momiji, Traffic Cone, Sunset Beach, Piña Colada (which I created specifically for the project).

The shawl was an enjoyable and relaxing knit. I didn’t find it taxing but I did need to keep a note of where I was in the pattern. Luckily each row is written-out individually so that was easy to do. The pattern uses just a small amount of the first two colours, so it’s a great use for those leftovers of precious hand-dyed skeins.

All in all, I think this will get a great deal of wear as a winter scarf, once it’s back from its adventures.
