Happy new yarn

Happy 2011 to you! I did a spot of dyeing in the final days on 2010.

Clockwise from top: DK wool and baby alpaca in variegated turquoise and pink/blue; superwash merino sock in self striping pink/orange/purple, variegated pink/orange/purple and variegated blue/green/turquoise.

The sock yarn was created by dipping sections in royal blue and yellow, then over-dyeing with pink or turquoise (all using Procion MX and citric acid). The self striping yarn was dyed in a 3 m hank I made by wrapping it around a table. I normally dye yarn with more subtle transitions so I’m excited to see how these will look knitted up.

Examining last year’s yarn stats, I have decreased the stash by 22 balls, but increased the stash yardage by over 4000 m, which is a little worrying but generally I’m buying finer yarns. In 2010 I knitted 56 balls of yarn, bought 51, spun 3 and sold or gifted 32. I’m sure I could have had more will power but overall this is OK. If I get my knit on in 2011 I’m sure I can beat this.

Happy 2011 to you too! I can’t wait to see how these yarns knit up. I bet they’ll make gorgeous FOs.

    Happy New Year!

What ace colours. Your picture looks like fireworks made from yarn!

I hope I can do better with my stash next year. But last year was pretty stash-neutral so, as you say, could be worse..
