After a few years of offering smaller Festive Yarn Boxes, for this season I decided to go all in and create the full 24-shade advent format with an indulgent set of extras. Foolhardy? Undoubtedly. Bringing these to life is an enormous endeavour, it really takes over my life for a couple of months, but in the times we’re living in I felt like everyone deserved something extra special.
The Winter Woodland theme is an homage to both our local ancient woodland, Epping Forest, and the colder forests of Scandinavia. These wooded ecosystems are full of life, even in the depths of winter, and I go beyond the expected earthy tones and showcase the the spectrum of colour that can be found there.
The yarn shade form a continuous gradient of tonal shades inspired by the woodland colours of late autumn and winter. Going anti-clockwise from the top, we have Snowflake, Icicle, Melt Water, Crystal Lake, Pine canopy, Yew, Ivy, Old Oak, Hazel Sticks, Field Maple, Golden Hour, Chanterelle, Foxcub, Rowanberry, Rosehip, Horse Chestnut, Bark, Copper Beech, Juniperberry, Sloe Gin, Amethyst Deceiver, Wood Blewit, Misty Evening, and Frosty Morning.
Many of the extras also followed the woodland theme.
We have a specially commissioned, stunningly intricate set of handmade lampwork glass stitch markers by Flame Knits; a medium project bag in Ruby Star Society mushroom print made by me (I also made a handful of project bags in different designs for the shop); a beeswax pinecone candle from a lovely Cheshire apiary; some woodland washi tape and a felt mushroom decoration DIY set. Last but not least, two delicious mini bars from our local chocolate maker, Saw Chocolate. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Saw have now closed their shop, and this might be the last time we’re able to bring you their incredible treats, which only makes this year’s Festive Box all the more special.
Plans are already being formed for 2025’s Festive Box which will be announced in early summer. Join our email newsletter if you’d like to be the first to know about it.
