Christmas sweater contenders

I have identified the need for a Christmas sweater. You know the kind – something warm and cosy that treads (and likely crosses) the fine line between festive and tasteless, almost certainly through the medium of colour work.

It my seem like a strange time to be thinking about it, but these things take planning. I’ve had an orange cashmere Argyll sweater that I’ve been using for this purpose, which it’s actually quite stylish and therefore doesn’t fit the bill. I’ve found a couple of possibles:

The Tuva Pullover from KnitPicks (Ravelry link) is both beautiful and garish. One could easily be ‘festive-it-up’ with a bit of metallic yarn and a seasonal colours. It looks to be a thoroughly well fitting, fun and challenging knit.

This Reindeer Sweater by Drops Design (Ravelry link) also has a lot of potential. It needs some colour injecting into it – these Ravelry users have made the best of it – and maybe a bit of fitting.

I agree that a Christmas jumper needs planning, I brought yarn for mine in Jan 2012, cast on in October and had it finished in time for my Christmas concert at the beginning of December 2012! It was fingering weight, colourwork and really quite fiddly! But I am so pleased with it: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/hippadeemo/the-perfect-christmas-jumper
